Matara is situated 160 km away from Colombo it is one of the
major city of the Southern Province, Sri Lanka. Matara affected by the Asian
tsunami in December 2004.This costal city is major commercial hub of Sri Lanka therefore
Sri Lanka government has build dakshina lanka high way ,connecting Colombo –Matara but this road is not still finished
you can use costal railway to visit Colombo
to Matara also you can use buses .
Matara has many tourist attractions Matara port is the one
of tourist attractions it is built by the Dutch around 1640.You can see Dutch
colonial buildings in Matara also Matara has a beautiful beach which is called
as Polhena beach it is situated a few kilometers away from Matara City. St. Marie's church is situated in Matara also
Matara bodhi tree is situated in Matara City. Here are many recently
built hotels for visitors in search of the sun and sand.
